FarHills 125b

Far Hills Pintado Stud

Far Hills is a small family orientated stud  farm focusing on top quality competition horses with colour, level headed enough to be valued equine companions for the whole family to enjoy. It was founded in 2001 in Durbanville, Western Cape when our first mare surprised us with a spectacular bay colt, standing under our umbrella shaped fig tree to get him out of the rain. It was the most amazing sight that will stay with us forever… The rest is, as they say, history! Once the breeding bug has taken its hold there is no turning back! We started out with a small band of boerperd cross mares, with outstanding temperaments, conformation and movement putting them to, Lusitano, Friesian and Warmblood stallions to complement each mare and produce quality sport horse foals. In 2006 we bought our first Tobiano mares; and that was the beginning of the end of life as we knew it! We fell in love with these beautiful creatures with their patchy coats. We started researching horse colouring and the more we learnt the more we fell in love with horses with that ‘touch of colour.' We found some lovely coloured Warmblood stallions with everything we were looking for in a great sire and bred out first coloured Warmblood and Warmblood cross foals in 2011.

We slowly started bringing in more and more warmblood mares with bloodlines that include, Dageraad, Highwell Flambard, Waldemar G, Zerro, and Lambada to name a few.

In June 2011 we moved to my husband’s family fruit farm in the rolling hills of the Eastern Cape, situated 30km outside of Grahamstown, where we have 150 hectares where the mares and foals have a variety of grazing and the added bonus of the foals growing up in a natural herd environment, where they can grow and develop slowly into strong, healthy and hardy young horses with good bone and healthy well developed feet.

From birth to leaving Far Hills the care of our horses is of paramount importance so as to ensure they are easy to handle ,foals are reared with care, regularly handled, wormed and trimmed ensuring they have the right foundation for their onwards training.

In May 2012 we were lucky enough to be offered the wonderful opportunity to purchase Zerro, a gorgeous Homozygous Tobiano KWPW stallion imported from Holland by Holeshot stud. Zerro has a wonderful temperament which he passes on to his foals, spectacular conformation, movement and wonderful bloodlines like Ferro / Purioso /Samber and Pericles xx to name a few. The fact that he is Homozygous for the Tobiano gene was really the added bonus. Zerro’s first foals are just turning 4 and are showing lots of promise in both the dressage, showing and show jumping arenas.

We will be welcoming our first crop of Zerro foals in the 2013/ 2014 breeding season and are very excited to see what he and our mares produce.

We are very blessed in living our dream and to be able to share our lives with these amazing creatures and clients we meet and befriend along the way and hope many more wonderful years ahead with our wonderful, family, friends, horses and clients.
